Terms of Service

The rules for your account, prepaid credits, map previews and downloadable files.

Version 2026-09-18-2 · Effective September 18, 2026

1. Who we are and these terms

Contour Foundry provides online tools that turn geographic data into customized street maps, map posters, lake maps, terrain models and 3D city models. These Terms govern use of contourfoundry.com, your account, credits and digital outputs.

Contour Foundry is the operator. Our address is Rua do Visconde de Anadia 11A, Funchal 9050-020 Madeira Portugal. Contact support@contourfoundry.com for service matters or privacy@contourfoundry.com for privacy matters.

You must affirmatively agree to the Terms and acknowledge the Privacy Policy before creating an account. We retain the versions and text you accepted. If you use the service for a business, you must have authority to act for it. You must be at least 18 and legally able to enter a contract.

2. Your account and security

Provide an accurate email address, verify it, and keep your account details current. Use a unique password, keep it confidential and do not share or sell account access. Tell us promptly if you believe someone else has accessed your account.

You are responsible for activity you authorize through your account. We may require email verification, password confirmation or other reasonable checks before sensitive actions. Password reset links expire and cannot be reused after a successful reset.

3. What you receive

We supply digital files, not physical prints, laser-cut pieces, materials or 3D-printed objects. Each map-type page describes its available formats and layers. The selected settings determine the output. Features and data coverage can differ by location and map type.

Previews help you inspect a design before generating finished files. They may be watermarked, reduced in resolution or simplified. Paid files are generated on our servers. Review the preview, settings, dimensions and listed formats before confirming a generation.

A reference to LightBurn, a slicer or another third-party program describes a possible workflow, not an endorsement or a guarantee of compatibility with every version, machine, material or production process. You are responsible for checking scale, paths, supports, tolerances and machine settings, and for running a safe test before production.

4. Credits, prices and checkout

Credits are prepaid units usable only for eligible Contour Foundry file generation. They are not a bank balance, investment or general-purpose currency. They cannot be transferred, resold or exchanged for cash except where a refund or applicable law requires it.

The price per credit, currency, minimum quantity, purchase increments and order total are shown before payment. USD is the default currency; EUR is also offered when available. EUR list prices may change as we update our exchange-rate reference. Your bank or payment provider may charge separate conversion or other fees. Confirm the currency and total at checkout.

Applicable taxes, if any, are displayed at checkout. Purchases are one-time payments, not recurring subscriptions. Stripe processes payments. Credits are added after successful payment is verified, which may occur after you return from checkout. A declined, canceled or unpaid checkout does not add purchased credits.

The credit cost for a finished-file generation is displayed before you confirm it. Free previews do not deduct credits, but are subject to reasonable usage limits. A new paid generation after changing settings may incur another displayed credit charge. Re-downloading an existing available export does not itself spend credits.

Purchased credits do not have a scheduled expiration under this policy. Promotional credits may have separately disclosed conditions. We will not retroactively increase the credit cost of an already confirmed generation. We may update prices and future generation costs with clear notice before purchase or confirmation.

5. Failed builds, refunds and payment issues

Credits are reserved when an export request is accepted. If our system marks a paid generation as failed or cancels it before completion, the reserved credits are returned. A return of site credits is different from a refund of money to your payment method.

Contact support about missing credits, a defective or incomplete file, an unauthorized purchase or a billing mistake. Include the purchase or build reference and a description of the problem; never send card details or your password. We will investigate and may offer a corrected generation, return credits or arrange a payment refund as appropriate and as required by law.

Completed digital files can be copied immediately, so a change of mind after a successful download does not automatically entitle you to a refund. This does not limit mandatory consumer rights, remedies for faulty or misdescribed products, or any cancellation right that applies to you. These Terms alone do not obtain any separate consent required by law to begin digital supply during a cancellation period.

Payment refunds are handled through Stripe to the original payment method where possible. Refunded or disputed purchases may lead to a temporary billing hold while we reconcile credits and usage. We will not knowingly provide duplicate compensation for the same transaction. Your rights to contact your payment provider remain unaffected.

6. Map data, accuracy and attribution

Maps depend on third-party information, including OpenStreetMap contributors and open elevation datasets. Information may be incomplete, outdated or inaccurate. Buildings, roads, water boundaries, heights and terrain may be missing, estimated or simplified. Place search and coordinates must be checked before generation.

Outputs are for creative, decorative and model-making uses. Do not rely on them for navigation, emergency response, surveying, legal boundaries, engineering, construction or other safety-critical decisions.

Underlying data and included components remain subject to their own licenses. Retain the attribution and license notices supplied with your files and follow any obligations that apply to your intended use, including those for derived databases. OpenStreetMap data is provided under the Open Database License; see openstreetmap.org/copyright. A credit purchase does not transfer exclusive ownership of geographic data.

7. Your content and use of the outputs

You retain rights you already hold in text, uploaded fonts and other content you provide. You must have the rights needed to upload and use it. You give us permission to store and process that content as needed to provide the service, generate your files, troubleshoot problems and maintain security.

Subject to these Terms and applicable third-party licenses, you may use legitimately purchased outputs for personal projects and commercial finished products, including prints, engraving, laser cutting and 3D printing. No exclusive rights are granted. You must obtain any additional font, trademark, content or other permissions required for your project.

Our software, interface, branding and other service materials remain owned by us or our licensors. Purchasing an output does not grant access to source code, rendering systems or another user's work. You may not represent that you own third-party map data or remove legally required attribution.

8. Acceptable use and fair usage

Do not use the service unlawfully, infringe others' rights, upload malicious files, attempt unauthorized access, evade payment or account limits, or interfere with other customers. Do not automate requests, scrape private content or repeatedly submit work to overload the service without our written permission.

We apply limits to preview frequency, simultaneous work, input size and processing time. These limits protect reliable access and may change as the service develops. Requests may be queued, reused from a matching cache, rejected or stopped when limits are reached. We do not guarantee a particular completion time.

9. Saved work, availability and account closure

Save important files to your own storage. Some editor drafts and preferences are stored in your browser and may be lost if you clear browser data, change devices or use private browsing. Server previews and finished exports are not a permanent backup or archive. Availability of a saved design does not guarantee indefinite availability of its preview or downloads.

We may maintain, change or temporarily interrupt the service. We may restrict or suspend an account for security, abuse, unlawful activity or unresolved payment issues. Where reasonable, we will explain the issue and provide a way to contact support; urgent protective action may be taken first.

You may request account closure through support. Records may be retained where needed for billing, fraud prevention, disputes or legal obligations as described in the Privacy Policy. If we permanently discontinue paid services, we will provide reasonable notice where practicable and explain how remaining purchased credits will be resolved, subject to applicable law.

10. Warranties and responsibility

We will provide the service with reasonable care and skill. To the extent permitted by law, we do not guarantee uninterrupted availability, perfect geographic accuracy, or suitability for a particular machine or project. You are responsible for reviewing outputs and using manufacturing equipment safely.

Nothing in these Terms excludes liability or remedies that cannot legally be excluded, including applicable consumer guarantees or responsibility for fraud.

11. Changes and contacting us

We identify each policy version by date and keep the text associated with recorded acceptances. Changes apply prospectively unless the law requires otherwise. We will give notice of material changes and request renewed agreement when required. The version displayed at signup is the version recorded for that account.
